The Rotary Club of Westerville recognized its December 2022 Students of the Month during its luncheon Dec. 1 at the Villa Milano Banquet & Conference Center.

Throughout the school year, from October through May, the Club honors four students from local high schools each month. Working with the school principals and counselors, one student each month is chosen from Westerville Central, Westerville North, Westerville South and St. Francis DeSales high schools.

The students, their parents, and the school administrators are introduced and honored at a Rotary Club luncheon each month.

December 2022 Honoree Profiles

Westerville Central: Destiny Spurlock’s favorite subjects are Advanced Placement Government and American Sign Language. The senior competes in the school’s girls varsity basketball team. She is a scholar athlete and works part-time at IHOP. She is interested in studying psychology at Ohio State University, Ohio University or University of Cincinnati.

Westerville North: Connie Wu’s favorite subjects are chemistry and math. She competes in the school’s cross country, dive and track and field teams. She is a mentor with the Warrior 2 Warrior and Big Warrior Little Warrior programs. She is a member of the National Honor Society and participates in the Warriorthon. She is also involved in the Buckeye Pole Vault. Among her honors and recognition: AP Scholar, 10-time Scholar Athlete, Dive team captain and most valuable player. She plans to study education at Ohio State University.

Westerville South: Alex Huggins’ favorite subject is the Theory of Knowledge class in the International Baccalaureate program. He founded WSHS’ Debate Club and works for Public Works in Gahanna. He has been heavily involved in Boy Scouts, receiving the merit award for three years. He served as a Senior Patrol Leader and is in phase three of the Boy Scouts’ National Youth Leadership Training Academy. He is interested in attending the University of Chicago, Boston University or New York University.

St. Francis DeSales: Cierci Yeager’s favorite subjects are English and math. She is a member of the school’s Evangelization Team and Drama Club. She is a student ambassador and Kairos leader. She volunteers at Oakleaf nursing home. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society. She is a National Merit Scholarship recipient. She plans to study criminology at Xavier University, Loyola University or the University of South Carolina.
