The Rotary Club of Westerville is primed and ready to stage Westerville’s 2021 Independence Day celebration!
With the actual July 4 date falling on a Sunday this year, the celebration has been moved to SATURDAY, JULY 3.
Due to planning wrinkles caused by COVID-19, we will not stage our normal State Street parade this year. We look forward to bringing back the parade in 2022!
Independence Day events for 2021 that WILL take place are:
The Rotary Club of Westerville Independence Day 5K Walk/Run
The 5K will begin at 8 a.m. July 3, followed by the Fun Run at 9:15. The event moves this year to the Westerville Sports Complex, 325 N. Cleveland Ave.
Registration has now closed for the 2021 race. No on-site registration at the race can be offered this year, due to COVID restrictions.
The final day of packet pickup for those who have registered is today, Friday, July 2, at the Lewis Center Fleet Feet, 1270 E Powell Rd, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Runners will receive a bib number with timing device, an event T-shirt featuring the Rotary’s new Independence Day celebration logo, and a medal with the same when they complete the race. Kids Fun Run participants receive a nifty event medal.
The Rotary Club of Westerville Concert Series & Food Truck Festival
Also moving this year to the Sports Complex this year is the Concert & Food Truck Festival.
The free concert kicks off at 5 p.m. and runs through the start of the fireworks display at 10 p.m.
The bands for this year are The Deeptones, an 11-piece funk and blues originals band from Columbus; and Popgun, a Columbus band that covers popular music hits from the 1960s through 1980s.
The play schedule July 3 will be:
- The Deeptones: 5:20–7:05 p.m.
- Popgun: 7:25–9:45 p.m.
- DJ James Minter will entertain between acts.
The Food Trucks will open services at 5 p.m. and continue sales through 9:45 p.m.

Bring a blanket and chairs and make an evening of it
The Sports Complex venue will be a great spot to spend the evening enjoying the music and fare from the food trucks.
Residents also are encouraged to stick around to catch a fabulous view of the Westerville fireworks.
Bring a picnic blanket and lawn chairs to make an evening of it and catch the patriotic show on Saturday, July 3!
The Rotary Club of Westerville Independence Day Fireworks Display
The Fireworks display also will be launched from a new location for 2021: Westerville’s Heritage Park, adjacent to the Everal Homestead northeast of Cleveland Avenue and West Main Street.
But Heritage Park itself will be closed to visitors during the display July 3 for safety reasons.
The fireworks will be launched toward the Sports Complex and Community Center. A fantastic view should be afforded to those who attend the free concert. 104.9 The River will simulcast patriotic music during the fireworks show.
Lights of Liberty, June 25-July 2
