Christian Loyacano drew the winning ticket in the 2024 Westerville Rotary Foundation 50/50 Raffle, Rotary Club of Westerville Independence Day Chairman Dave Krebs announced July 5.
The pot in the 50/50 Raffle reached $2,745. Loyacano will receive half – $1,372.50 – as will the Westerville Rotary Foundation, which funds the club’s College Scholarship Program for Westerville high school graduates, and a matching grants program for local nonprofit organizations.
Loyacano has been invited to the Rotary Club of Westerville’s July 25 luncheon at the Medallion Club, when accomplishments of this year’s whole Westerville Independence Day Celebration will be reviewed and recognized. The club has staged the city’s Independence Parade and larger celebration since 1962.
Nearly every member of the club is involved in putting on the annual celebration, which includes not just the Foundation 50/50 Raffle, but also an early morning 5K/Kids Fun Run; a giant State Street parade at 10:30 a.m.; a Free Concert and Food Truck Festival from 5-9:45 p.m.; and the Westerville Fireworks Show at 10 p.m.
Tickets for the 50/50 Raffle are sold online in the weeks before Independence Day, through the midpoint of the Concert on July 4. The winner need not be present for the drawing, but the winner normally is announced during a break in the concert entertainment. The club this year began using the online raffle platform for nonprofits, Zeffy.com.
With rain threatening this year, the concert was slightly shortened and the fireworks display was started at 9:40 p.m. The raffle winner could not be announced from the stage, but Loyacano was contacted Friday morning, July 5.
